“We yearn for there to be meaning to our lives, balanced with a sense of inner peace & joy.”
In a recent Gallup poll – I read that a whopping 70% of U.S. workers are –Not– engaged at work. “Gallup defines engaged employees as those who are involved in, enthusiastic about and committed to their work and workplace.”
This tells me that 70% of all working Americans are not only “actively disengaged”, they completely hate their jobs and have long checked out. As I factor in the rest of the working world… I realize that this is a global issue on a massive scale and much more needs to be done about it! I don’t believe that all people are lazy. So this issue in my opinion entails (but goes beyond) the personal individual journey; it needs to involve management and company cultures.
I’ve spent 11+ years “hating” what I do for a living. All the various jobs with little or meaningless purpose to me…
As a more “sensitive” person in general, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cried before going to work, because I’d be so miserable there, I just wanted to hide under the covers. And as an immigrant, of course that’s when you also start missing all your family, start feeling lonely – it’s like a twisted way of the cosmos to scorn the plot.
So why do so many of us “hate” (or have hated) our jobs? I personally have some theories I’ve experienced on my own skin:
1. Insufficient compensation ☞ either too many hours for not enough money, unsatisfactory health & other plans – or both.
2. We’re not passionate about what we’re doing and/or don’t relate to the “purpose”.
3. Incompetent management / inadequate environment / not feeling valued.
4. Fear of change.
5. Lack of stability and control.
Throughout my journeys I’ve found that even when somebody doesn’t intentionally “set out” to change the world, the subconscious need for what we do to have a purpose, is undeniable; and THAT – tells me that there’s so much good in all of us.
Because there IS good, more good needs to go around. So I’ve spent the last week going back in time and thinking about all the past work experiences. How I’ve coped, what worked, what didn’t… I’ve done some research, spoke with a wide variety of people and now I’m ready to launch this video for you.
If you’re in this position right now of doing what you don’t love, believe me things will work out – and I hope this video will not only inspire you, but motivate and help drive you. You have what it takes, here are some resources, then go after what you want, get creative and find a way!
If you’re among the lucky ones already pursuing their passion, please don’t forget to share this content. Most people aren’t as fortunate as we are and could use the encouragement and inspiration.
